Following the departure of Mr Antonio Saggio, former President of the Court of First Instance, and the entry into office as Judge at the Court of First Instance of Mr Paolo Mengozzi, the Members of the Court of First Instance have elected one of their number as President Judge ... for the remainder of the term, that is until 17 September 1998.

Bo Vesterdorf Born 1945; Lawyer-linguist at the Court of Justice; Administrator in the Ministry of Justice; Examining Magistrate; Legal Attaché in the Permanent Representation of Denmark to the European Communities; Temporary Judge at the Østre Landsret; Head of the Administrative Law Division in the Ministry of Justice; Head of Division in the Ministry of Justice; University Lecturer; Member of the Steering Committee on Human Rights at the Council of Europe (CDDH), and subsequently Member of the Bureau of the CDDH; Judge at the Court of First Instance since 1 September 1989.

The President of the Court of First Instance directs the judicial business and the administration of the court; he presides at hearings and at deliberations in the deliberation room.
