Biography and career

Mr Iko Nõmm was born in 1977 in Tallinn (Estonia); he graduated in law in 2001 and obtained a Master of Laws in 2007 from the Tartu Ülikool (University of Tartu, Estonia). He continued his law studies at the Tartu Ülikool, following which he defended a doctorate in law in 2013.

He began his career as an adviser to the Tallinna Ringkonnakohus (Court of Appeal, Tallinn, Estonia) from 2001 to 2002, and served as a trainee judge at the Harju Maakohtu (Court of First Instance, Harju, Estonia). Mr Nõmm sat as a judge at that court from 2002 to 2007 and subsequently at the Tallinna Ringkonnakohus (Court of Appeal, Tallinn) from 2007 to 2019. He was appointed as a trainee judge at the Riigikohus (Supreme Court, Estonia) from 2015 to 2016 and seconded to the Court of Justice of the European Union as a national judge from 2017 to 2018.

Mr Nõmm also taught as a lecturer at the Tartu Ülikool from 2014 to 2019 and at the training department of the Riigikohus from 2015 to 2019. In addition, he gave training sessions at the Estonian Bar Association from 2015 to 2019 and was a member of the Judge Assessment Commission between 2018 and 2019. Between 2015 and 2019, he was a member of the Professional Suitability Assessment Committee of the Estonian Bar.

Mr Nõmm was appointed as a Judge at the General Court on 26 September 2019.
