Visit to the French Conseil Constitutionnel

On 20 March 2026, a delegation of the Court of Justice of the European Union, led by its President, Koen Lenaerts, visited the French Conseil Constitutionnel (Constitutional Court), at the invitation of Richard Ferrand, President of the Conseil Constitutionnel.

Three working sessions formed the basis of this day of discussions, which focused on current issues facing European democracies. The two Courts shared their perspectives on contemporary constitutional challenges, such as judicial dialogue, judicial independence, and the rule of law.

At the conclusion of this meeting, the Conseil Constitutionnel and the Court of Justice committed to continuing their regular exchanges in order to strengthen their fruitful cooperation, so as to ensure respect for fundamental rights and freedoms and promotion of the rule of law.
