Hivatalos látogatás Horvátországban
On 25 and 26 May 2026, a delegation from the Court of Justice of the European Union paid an official visit to Croatia. The delegation was led by Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice, and Thomas van Danwitz, Vice-President, and included the Members of the Court of Justice from Croatia: Judge Siniša Rodin and Advocate General Tamara Ćapeta.
The visit took place in the context of the constant and close relations that the Court maintains with national courts in the Member States and provided an opportunity to further strengthen judicial dialogue.
On Monday 25 May, the members of the delegation convened at the National and University Library in Zagreb, with members of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia, including its President, Mirta Matić; members of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia, including its President, Frane Staničić; representatives of the Croatian Parliament; and the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković. The participants took part in a number of working sessions, covering
- the role of supreme courts in ensuring the uniform application of law, in light of the CJEU’s judgments in cases C-554/21 Hann-Invest and C-144/23 Kubera
- the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia, where presentations were given on
- the handling of cases before the CJEU
- the role and work of Advocates General
On Tuesday 26 May, President Lenaerts, Vice-President von Danwitz and Judge Rodin met with Prime Minister Plenković. The delegation subsequently visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia, where they discussed the Constitutional Court’s practice regarding the CJEU’s preliminary ruling procedure, as well as the relationship between constitutional rights and the rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights.
