Meeting of Judges 2025
On 1-2 December, the Court of Justice of the European Union welcomed around 150 judges from across the EU for its “Meeting of Judges”.
This yearly event is an opportunity for national judges to see the Court in action and to take part in discussions with Members of the Court on subjects of common interest. It is organised by the Court in order to foster closer relations with all levels of the national judiciary throughout the EU and to provide a forum for an exchange of ideas and mutual understanding.
The morning of 1 December was dedicated to working sessions on overarching themes, notably
- recent evolutions in the preliminary ruling procedure
- Article 19 of the Treaty on European Union, the article that establishes the Court of Justice of the European Union and its relationship with national courts
In the afternoon, the visiting judges had a choice of workshops where the recent case law of the Court could be discussed in the areas of
- asylum and immigration
- the European Arrest Warrant
- judicial cooperation in civil matters
The following day, the visiting national judges attended a hearing of the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice before heading back to their respective countries.
