Visit of the Caribbean Court of Justice
On 27-30 April 2026, a delegation from the Caribbean Court of Justice, led by its President, The Honourable Mr Justice Winston Anderson, visited the Court of Justice of the European Union.
This visit formed part of initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue between international courts. It provided an opportunity for the representatives of the Caribbean Court of Justice to gain insight into the structure and functioning of the EU courts, to observe judicial proceedings first-hand, and to exchange views on topics of shared interest.
The programme opened on Monday 27 April with a bilateral meeting between Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice, and Winston Anderson, President of the Caribbean Court of Justice. The entire delegation then met with President Lenaerts for a further discussion.
This was followed by introductory presentations on the work of the Court of Justice, including the role of the Advocate General and proceedings before the Court of Justice. In the afternoon, the delegation attended a hearing of the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice in Case C-378/25 Smetna palata.
On Tuesday 28 April, participants attended another hearing of the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice in Joined Cases C-271/25 Autovici and C-334/25 Skinest Baltija, alongside a number of thematic sessions focusing in particular on
- preliminary rulings
- research tools
- recent case-law
On Wednesday 29 April, discussions addressed ongoing developments relating to artificial intelligence.
The visit concluded on Thursday 30 April with sessions dedicated to the General Court and certain administrative services of the institution, including
- an exchange with Marc van der Woude, President of the General Court
- presentations on the functioning and procedures of the General Court
- contributions from the Library Directorate and Curia Web TV
