Information on judicial vacations

Under Article 15 of the Protocol on the Statute of the Court of Justice, the Court of Justice of the European Union remains permanently in session.

However, throughout the year, the Court of Justice and the General Court both observe periods of judicial vacation. In addition, three times a year, there is a one-week period during which no hearings are held. Despite this, the Courts, registries and the administrative services continue to function as usual during these times, and hearings can still be scheduled if required by the circumstances of the case.

As the Courts are located in Luxembourg, they also observe Luxembourg’s statutory public holidays.

The judicial year runs from September to August.

In the first quarter of each year, the Court publishes its decision on the official holidays for the following judicial year in the EU’s Official Journal.
