Communications Directorate

The Court’s Communications Directorate is responsible for all internal and external communication of the Court of Justice of the European Union. As such, it is at the forefront of the Court’s commitment to transparency.

It provides information to journalists and the general public about the work of the Court. It does this through both mass communication, principally via the Court’s website and social media tools, and on a one-to-one basis in replying to emails and phone calls received by the Court.

It contains two units – the Press and Information Unit, and the Publications and Electronic Media Unit, each of which has its own areas of activity.

In addition, teams drawn from across the directorate work together to manage the Court’s social media channels, create and distribute the Court’s audiovisual content, known as CuriaWebTV, and to organise events such as the Court’s Open Day.

Press and Information Unit

The Press and Information Unit handles communication about the Court’s judicial activities and manages the Court’s media relations.

It is also responsible for responding to questions from the general public.

It drafts and distributes press releases on important decisions and Opinions, particularly those that are interesting for citizens and/or those that have an important social or economic impact.

For more information on how the Court interacts with the press, see our page on Services for the media.
