Library Directorate
The Library of the Court of Justice specialises in EU law and has a rich collection of works on this subject. It also holds extensive collections on international law, the laws of EU Member States and the laws of certain non-Member States. The Library Directorate contains two units dedicated to managing the use of this collection and ensuring that it is accessible to users.
The Library’s catalogue is available online. Please consult the terms and conditions of external websites when downloading, copying and generally using any of the content of those websites linked through the catalogue. The Court is not liable for the misuse of this content.
The Library also plays a role in supporting the judicial activity of the Court. It provides on-demand research of publications in academic journals to assist the Members and staff of the Court in their legal work. Furthermore, it monitors publications in academic journals to keep users informed of recent developments in legal academia relevant to the Court’s activities.
The Library is also responsible for publishing the case-law of the Court of Justice and the General Court – in particular in the Case-law database on this site and on EUR-Lex, the interinstitutional database covering all EU law.
The Library primarily serves the Court’s Members and staff. However, external visitors can access the Library’s resources with prior authorisation. You can find more information on the Library admission’s policy on our page on visiting the Library.
To read about the challenges facing modern law libraries, you can consult the Library Directorate’s publication on the topic. It is available in French.
The Library Directorate is also responsible for the historical archives of the Court and processing requests for access to administrative documents.
