Directorate-General for Multilingualism

'The Court shall set up a language service staffed by experts with adequate legal training and a thorough knowledge of several official languages of the
European Union' (
Article 42 of the Rules of Procedure)

Reflecting the importance of the language question to the Court, the Directorate-General for Multilingualism is the institution's largest service.

The Directorate-General comprises the Directorate for Interpretation and Directorates A and B for Legal Translation.  Functional units are responsible for the cross-cutting tasks necessary to the entire service. They are placed under the direct responsibility of the Director-General.
