Initially built in the early 1970s, the Palais was completely renovated in the early 2000s and has, since 2008, been the public face of justice. The public can attend the Court of Justice’s hearings at the Palais.
Made of steel and glass, the Palais is a subtle reminder of the origins of the institution, when it was the judicial institution of the European Coal and Steel Community. It houses five courtrooms on several levels, preceded by large interconnecting halls, known as ‘salles des Pas Perdus’. The courtrooms are where the parties argue their cases, the Advocates General deliver their Opinions and judgments are given.
