New version of e-Curia

e-Curia v2 e-Curia is an application of the Court of Justice of the European Union that is intended for lawyers and agents of the Member States and of the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the European Union, and which allows the exchange of procedural documents with the Registries of the Court of Justice, the General Court and the Civil Service Tribunal, by exclusively electronic means.

e-Curia came into operation at the end of 2011. After one year of use, 50 % of lodgment of procedural documents at the three Court Registries is done by e-Curia. More than 6200 documents lodged and 77 000 documents served have been lodged or served by exclusively electronic means. Electronic lodgment of documents has saved parties' representatives approximately 1 400 000 pages of paper. 1

In order to promote the use of this exchange platform, increase its effectiveness and respond to the suggestions put forward by users, the Court of Justice of the European Union has developed new functionalities. The new version of e-Curia, available since 18/02/2013, thus offers the following new functionalities:

  • Preparation of lodgment by an assistant:
    the lodgment prepared by the assistant can be saved to await validation by the representative. The representative can, within 48 hours, check, add to and validate that lodgment from any computer.
    The date of lodgment taken into account is the date on which lodgment is validated by the representative.
  • Simplification of the process:
    • the number of stages preceding lodgment has been reduced;
    • documents served, together with their annexes, can be downloaded and saved in a single action. A ZIP file is available with the various files organised systematically.
  • Greater transparency:
    where a procedural document is served on a number of representatives of the same party, the new version of e-Curia informs each of them, within that group, of all the recipients of the document served, as well as the identity of the person who accepts service. The date on which service is accepted is also shown.

These new functionalities will make e-Curia more user-friendly. Interested representatives are invited to consult the documentation available on-line with a view to opening an e-Curia account.
